Hans Kaspar Grob (born March 15, 1800 in Zurich , † April 7, 1865 in Stäfa ) was a Swiss Protestant clergyman.

Life

Hans Kaspar Grob was the son of Johann Jakob Grob and his wife Anna Katharina (née Ringgli).

He enrolled at the University of Zurich and began studying theology; While still a student he was vicarious in Zollikon . In 1824 he received his ordination and studied another three semesters at the University of Berlin .

From 1826 to 1833 he was vicar in Kilchberg and from 1833 to 1839 pastor in Rorbas . During this time, in 1837, he initiated the establishment of the rescue facility for poor, neglected children (today: residential school Freienstein) on the castle hill Freienstein . The construction was made possible because Baron Friedrich von Sulzer-Wart (1806–1857) bought the property below the ruins of Freienstein on the occasion of his wedding and donated it as an institution; he also paid for the construction of the residential and school building. The purpose of the institution was initially the spiritual and physical rescue of poor, neglected children of both sexes between the ages of 5 and 13 years. Initially, the institution was run by an association that consisted of five to six members. The first president from 1838 to 1842 was Hans Kaspar Grob.

After he became dean of the Bülach district in 1838 , he was a pastor in Stäfa from 1840 until his death in 1865 with a traditional theological orientation. Despite an accident in 1864, which weakened him very much, he continued to exercise his office.

In 1842 he was elected to the church council and thus to the executive of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich .

In 1852 he was the co-founder of the Stäfner Orphanage as President of the Poor Care .

Hans Kaspar Grob was married to Johanna Dorothea Gessner from Zurich since 1833. The names of her children are known:

  • Johann Emanuel Grob (born June 19, 1834 in Rorbas, † October 8, 1909 in Winterthur ), politician .
