Hans Schober (politician)

Hans Schober (born December 25, 1927 in Spittal an der Drau , Carinthia ; † October 14, 2006 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Hans Schober attended compulsory schools and worked briefly as a construction worker in 1945. In 1947, barely 20 years old, Schober became district party secretary of the Social Democrats in the Spittal an der Drau district . His rise within the party proceeded rapidly from then on. In 1950 Schober became chairman of the city party in Spittal and in 1951, at the age of 24, chairman of the SPÖ district party in Spittal.

In 1953, at the age of 26, Schober was elected City Councilor for Finance in Spittal an der Drau. In 1956 he ran successfully for the office of mayor . Schober was then mayor for seven years, from January 1956 to July 1963.

From 1956 to 1960, Schober was a member of his party in the Carinthian state parliament . In 1963, the Carinthian governor, Hans Sima , brought Schober into his provincial government as financial councilor. Schober also worked in this function under Sima's successor Leopold Wagner for almost 20 years until 1982.

From March 1960 to July 1963 he was also a member of the SPÖ in the Federal Council in Vienna .
