Hansgeorg Schmidt-Bergmann

Hansgeorg Schmidt-Bergmann (born February 19, 1956 in Bad Oldesloe ) is a German literary and cultural scientist and university professor.

Live and act

Hansgeorg Schmidt-Bergmann studied German , political science and philosophy at the Universities of Marburg and Frankfurt am Main . In 1983 he was at the University of Marburg in Gert Mattenklott and Norbert Altenhofer with a thesis on Nikolaus Lenau Dr. phil. PhD . Afterwards he was lecturer for German language at the University of Bari in Italy until 1984 and from 1984 to 1990 university assistant at the University of Karlsruhe .

In 1990 he completed his habilitation at the University of Karlsruhe with a thesis on the beginnings of the literary avant-garde in Germany. From 1991 he taught modern German literature as a private lecturer at the University of Karlsruhe. From 1995 to 1997 he was DAAD guest lecturer for German-language literary history at the Comenius University in Bratislava in Slovakia and then lecturer for one semester at the University of Vienna . In 1998 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Karlsruhe.

Hansgeorg Schmidt-Bergmann has been executive chairman of the Karlsruhe Literary Society and director of the Museum for Literature on the Upper Rhine since 1998 . He is a member of the juries of literary prizes, for example the Schiller Memorial Prize , the Johann Peter Lever Prize and the Grimmelshausen Prize , and a member of the board of trustees of the German Schiller Foundation Weimar.

From 2000 to 2004, Hansgeorg Schmidt-Bergmann was co-editor of the Lenau yearbook of the International Lenau Society . He has been co-editor since 2003 and editor of Allmende - magazine for literature since 2008 . Since 2007 he has been chairman of the Hermann Hesse Literature Prize Foundation .
