Hansjörg Trachsel

Hansjörg Trachsel (born August 30, 1948 ; resident in Celerina and Rüeggisberg ) is a Swiss politician and former bobsledder .

Professional background

Trachsel went through primary and secondary school in Herzogenbuchsee . He completed an apprenticeship as a reinforced concrete draftsman in Langenthal from 1964–67 and graduated in 1970 as a civil engineer from HTL in Burgdorf . In 1970/71, Stahlton AG in Zurich was his employer, and in 1971 he joined Edy Toscano AG in Zurich. In 1974 he became branch manager in Pontresina and in 1994 was promoted to president of the overall management. He has been a full-time member of the government of the Canton of Graubünden since September 26, 2004 : Hansjörg Trachsel has been Head of the Department of Economics and Social Affairs (DVS) since 2005.

Sports

Trachsel was a member of the national bobsleigh team from 1974 to 1980. In 1977 he became vice world champion and at the 1979 World Cup he won a bronze medal. Several times he was race director or OC president at sporting events. From 1992–2005 Hansjörg Trachsel was Vice President of the International Bobsleigh Federation ( FIBT ) and was responsible for examining the IOC's candidatures for the Olympic Winter Games. Hansjörg Trachsel has been an honorary member of the International Bobsleigh Federation (FIBT) since 2005.

Hansjörg Trachsel began his political career as a member of the Swiss People's Party , of which he was Cantonal President from 1985-90. From 1985 until his election to the Government Council, he was a member of the Grand Council, where he chaired the Audit Commission in 1997/98. 1987–96 he was mayor of Celerina . Since 1997 he has presided over the trade and industry association there.

As a member of the government, he has headed the cantonal department of home affairs and economics since January 2005 and in 2009 took over the rotating office of regional president. On behalf of Government Councilor Hansjörg Trachsel, a broad-based group of experts is accompanying the Graubünden tourism reform project (competitive structures and division of tasks in Graubünden tourism) under the direction of the Office for Economy and Tourism. As President of the Steering Committee, Government Councilor Hansjörg Trachsel was responsible for submitting the Thusis-Tirano railway line as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When the BDP Graubünden emerged from the SVP of the Canton of Graubünden in 2008 following the election of Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf to the Federal Council , Trachsel decided to remain with the BDP. He was confirmed in office with a good result in the 2010 general election.
