George Henry "Harry" Moger (born September 1878 in Southampton , † June 16, 1927 in London ) was an English football player. The goalkeeper won the English championship with Manchester United in 1908 and 1911 and the FA Cup in 1909 .

Career

Moger played for the amateur club Forest Swifts and worked as a locksmith before he was active from 1898 as a professional for FC Freemantle in the Southern League . In 1899, Freemantle was now out of the Southern League, he was banned for two months because he illegally played for Forest Swifts despite his professional status. In the summer of 1900, Moger moved to Freemantle's local rival FC Southampton , but during his three-year stay behind England goalkeeper Jack Robinson he rarely played and did not participate in the final in the 1902 FA Cup.

In May 1903 Moger was piloted by Ernest Mangnall in the Football League Second Division to Manchester United and was there initially substitute goalkeeper behind John Sutcliffe . Moger made his Football League debut on October 10, 1903 in a 4-0 home win against Barnsley FC , but initially had problems with his nervousness . At the end of March 1904 he permanently took over the position of goalkeeper from Sutcliffe and with Moger as regular goalkeeper, Manchester United returned to the First Division in 1906 after 12 years of abstinence as second in the table . The punishment of local rivals Manchester City in May 1906 had a decisive influence on the further sporting development of United . The club was found guilty of illegal payments by the Football Association . 17 current and former players from the club were banned and banned from playing for Manchester City until January 1, 1907. United took advantage of this fact and secured four City players, Billy Meredith , Herbert Burgess , Sandy Turnbull and Jimmy Bannister , all of whom were part of the team when United won the English championship for the first time in 1907/08.

In 1909, Moger's second major title win followed by winning the FA Cup . In the final, Bristol City was beaten 1-0 in front of over 70,000 spectators at the Crystal Palace . At the end of the 1910/11 season , when again winning the English championship, Moger lost his regular place to Hugh Edmonds and, after playing large parts of the 1911/12 season for the reserve team in the Central League , ended his in June 1912 Football career. Despite his success and 266 competitive games for Manchester United, the tall and gaunt goalkeeper was not used for the English national team or for the selection teams of the Football League. After the end of his playing career, Moger earned his living in Manchester as a commission agent . He died on June 16, 1927 in a nursing home in London .
