Harry Slapnicka

Harry Slapnicka (born October 29, 1918 in Kladno , Czechoslovakia , † August 13, 2011 in Linz ) was an Austrian journalist and historian . He specialized in Upper Austrian contemporary history.

Life

From 1937 to 1940 Slapnicka studied law, history and political science at the Charles University in Prague . In 1940 he received his doctorate. jur. Military service followed. In 1946 he came to Upper Austria, where he initially worked for the local Caritas . From 1955 to 1971 he was employed by the Linzer Volksblatt , most recently as editor-in-chief. He then began to deal with Upper Austrian contemporary history , which led to the establishment and management of the new "Contemporary History and Documentation" department in the Upper Austrian State Archives . Slapnicka is the author of books, essays and articles. In 1974 he was given the title of " Professor " by the Austrian Federal President . From 1975 he was the leading exponent of the series "Contributions to the Contemporary History of Upper Austria".
