Hatzimichalis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hatzimichalis (international brand name, Greek Χατζημιχάλης Chatzimichalis ) or Domaine Hatzimichali (Greek Κτήμα Χατζημιχάλη Ktima Chatzimichalis ) is a winery from Attica . With 600,000 bottles it is one of the smaller of the large wineries in Greece (→ Viticulture in Greece ), but due to the many awards it has received, it is one of the better known.

history

The company was only founded in 1977 after the founder Dimitris Chatzimichalis started planting vines in 1973. He financed the project through an electronics store and a turkey farm (hence the turkey logo). The region around Atalanti was one of the few areas in Greece to have no winemaking tradition due to difficult soils.

Companies

130 hectares are currently cultivated. From the beginning Chatzimichalis produced a small quantity of many different wines, which always had an adverse effect on the advertising and awareness of a product. There are currently 18 different wines on offer. Domestic sales take place independently through the winery and a branch in Thessaloniki, while the company exports abroad mainly to the USA and England. The company also publishes books on the history and technology of viticulture.
