Haug Gilg Georg von Kuenheim (born May 29, 1934 in Königsberg ) is a German journalist and author .

Life

Von Kuenheim comes from the Alsatian nobility from Kienheim near Truchtersheim, who emigrated to East Prussia in the 15th century . Eberhard von Kuenheim , former CEO of BMW AG, is his cousin. His parents were Wilhelm von Kuenheim (1887–1972) and his second wife Jeanne Sarasin (1906–2003). His marriage to Friederike Countess zu Solms-Wildenfels (* 1942) remained childless.

He studied law and political science at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken. After passing his first state examination in law , he began working as a trainee at the daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel in Berlin in 1961 . In 1963 he moved to the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in Hamburg. He was a political editor , was responsible for the Länderspiegel , headed the Modern Life department , became a member of the editor-in-chief and was in charge of the service . From 1987 to 1988 he was briefly editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger . Most recently he was again deputy editor-in-chief of Zeit and head of Zeitmagazin . He was also the editor of the ZEITpunkte magazine . After his retirement he wrote columns for the Hamburg weekly newspaper. From 2001 to 2007 he was an advisor to the editorial team of WZB-Mitteilungen .

He was considered a close confidante of the editor Marion Countess Dönhoff and published a. a. a biography about her. Together with Theo Sommer , he edited the correspondence between Marion Countess Dönhoff and the publisher Gerd Bucerius .

In September 2014 it became known that von Kuenheim was one of the founding members of the New Liberals , a party that has split off from the FDP .
