Major works of Ottonian book illumination

The main works of Ottonian book illumination are those illuminated manuscripts that were created in the Ottonian period in the East Franconian Empire and are highlighted in art-historical literature as works of particular artistic rank (see especially the general overviews given in the literature list). The Ottonian book illumination follows the Carolingian and goes over to the Romanesque book illumination .

In 2003, ten works from the Reichenau School were included in the UNESCO list of world heritage documents . The Liuthar Gospels and the Munich Gospels of Otto III were selected. , the Bamberg Apocalypse , the Egbert Psalter , the Gero Codex , the Pericopes Book of Henry II , the Gospels from the Bamberg Cathedral , the Poussay Evangelistary , the Codex Egberti and the manuscript Bamberg, Staatsbibliothek, Msc. Bibl. 22 .
