history

construction

The construction of the church from the metallurgy plant Petrovsky (former Bryansk Steel Works), the idea of the diocesan architect of Poltava Governorate GI Tuworets ( Russian Г.И.Туровец out), financed, this St. Petersburg from St. architect Konstantin Konstantinovich Romanov ( Russian Романов, Константин Константинович ) was supported.

Construction began in 1913 and ended in 1915. The building, built mainly in the neoclassical style, also contains elements of the baroque .

Profanation during the Soviet Union

After a general nationalization of many places of worship and the propagation of state atheism in the Soviet Union, the building was nationalized from February 8, 1929 on the decision of the Dnepropetrovsk Oblast Administration on the grounds of the “general demand of the workers of Dnepropetrovsk”. The building initially served as a children's technology facility ( Russian детская техническая станция ) for a few years, and since the 1935s it has been used as a warehouse, mainly for coal. This use caused great damage to the building.

In May 1942, during the German occupation during the Second World War , the Dnipropetrovsker Zeitung reported that there were German plans for a restoration of the building with subsequent use as a place of worship. However, due to the liberation of the city, this never happened and the building was still used as a warehouse, which is why the building fell into disrepair.

In the 1970s, the relationship to culture and cultural institutions changed, so that the St. Nicholas Church was included in the register of buildings worthy of protection after the establishment of a cultural department of the oblast administration, which at the latest with a decision of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic of Entered into law September 6, 1979.

After a public inquiry to the cultural department of the oblast administration, the latter decided on June 22nd, 1982 to convert the church into the house of organ and chamber music. In the same year, the restoration began by the architect of the Dnipropetrovsk department of Ukrschilremproekt ( Russian Укржилремпроект ) OG Popowa and by workers of the Gorremstroitresta ( Russian Горремстройтреста ). The restoration was completed in May 1986. In 1987 a twelve-ton organ from the German company W. Sauer Orgelbau with 2074 pipes and 30 registers (opus 2181) was installed. The inauguration concert took place on April 27, 1987 for the workers, restorers and artists who worked on the building.

The Metropolitan of the Eparchiatry of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad Irenäus (( Russian Митрополи́т Ирине́й ), secular Ivan Petrovich Seredni ( Russian Иван Петрович Середний )) agreed to keep the business going .
