Leveling caster
The leveling roller is a term from tax legislation. The tax burden still to be paid by a tax debtor is entered in the leveling roll. Rolle recalls that in the past this tax burden was recorded on rolls of parchment. The term “lifting” still appears today in the term “ lifting rate ” and describes the amount of the tax.
Leveling castors are often also valuable written documents for historical research, because in the Middle Ages the leveling castors, which for example precisely listed what and how much in kind had to be delivered to a monastery, were often the only written documents that attest to the existence of places.
