Heddal (old German name Hitterdal ) is a district of the municipality of Notodden in the Norwegian province of Vestfold og Telemark . Until 1964 the place was the administrative center of its own municipality . It is not far from the 12 km long Heddalsvatnet lake in the Heddøla valley .

Heddal is best known for the Heddal stave church , built in the 13th century, and its open-air museum "Heddal bygdetun". The latter presents, among other things, 15 historic farms from Telemark; the oldest, listed buildings date from the 15th and 16th centuries.

There has been a ski jumping hill in the village since 1946 , which initially allowed jumps up to 60 meters. In 1985 the new ski jumping hill, which has since been rebuilt and modernized several times, was inaugurated, and in 1994 the Norwegian junior championship took place on the facility. The ski jumps with the name Tveitanbakkane are operated by the Heddal IL association.
