Army Studies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Military History is a historical auxiliary science of military history . It encompasses the historical and cultural-historical development of all parts of the armed forces in relation to all aspects, in particular to formation, organization , training , clothing , equipment , armament and administration .

history

For historical reasons, the name Heereskunde only refers to the army , since when army science was founded in the middle to the end of the 19th century, the armed forces of the German-speaking area consisted predominantly of army units, especially infantry , cavalry and artillery . The navy was of little importance at the time.

While the early military scientists like Richard Knötel concentrated their research primarily on recording and describing military equipment, in the second half of the 20th century a holistic approach to military science slowly gained acceptance, which included the development of military clothing in the context of social and economic relationships sat. Hans Bleckwenn in particular paved the way for this with his work.

Military societies

In Germany, the " German Society for Heereskunde " (DGfH) was founded as early as 1898 . In Austria there was the " Austrian Society for Heereskunde " (ÖGHK) from 1921 to 1938 and again since 1974 . In the USA, the company "The Company of Military Historians" founded in 1949 exists.
