The Heeresmusikkorps Ulm (HMusKorps Ulm), until 18 September 2013 Heeresmusikkorps 10 (HMusKorps 10) based in Ulm is one of five music corps of the German army . In the course of the realignment of the Bundeswehr, the Army Music Corps 10 was subordinated to the Armed Forces Office and is thus part of the armed forces base. The military music service of the Bundeswehr has a total of 15 music corps.

history

The military band was set up in Ellwangen / Jagst on October 1, 1956, the 10th Panzer Division (Division lion) in Sigmaringen, one mainly in Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg stationed major unit of the army, assumed. The corps is deployed from Lake Constance to Franconia , west-east from Breisgau to the Bavarian Forest . The main task of the music corps is the military protocols and receptions for military and civilian personalities of all nations. In addition, charity concerts and community concerts with domestic and foreign music corps are held.

In 1972 the Army Music Corps 10 participated in the Olympic Games in Munich , playing the national anthems and musical entertainment in the opening ceremony and at numerous award ceremonies. As a symphonic wind orchestra , in the so-called Egerländer line-up or as a chamber music line-up, the 50 musicians have had several radio recordings, participations in television productions and numerous stays abroad.

In 2008 the music corps represented the German military music service at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo's largest music show in Halifax , Canada . On January 18, 2012, Captain Matthias Prock took over the management of staff from Lieutenant Colonel Christian Weiper. He is the 11th chief and conductor of the traditional Army Music Corps 10.

In 2015 , a new music show was created in collaboration with Roberto Scafati, the then ballet director of the Ulm Theater . This was first presented by the Ulm Army Music Corps in the same year at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax, Canada. In the following year it was the first German orchestra to perform at the Officers' Ball in the Vienna Hofburg . In 2016, to mark its 60th anniversary, the CD “Marches - then as now” was released. The collaboration with Theater Ulm also brought two joint concerts with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Ulm in 2015 and 2017, as well as a guest conductor by General Music Director Timo Handschuh in the same year .

Since March 2017 there has been a partnership between the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim with its "State Center for Conducting" and the Heeresmusikkorps Ulm. In this context, the music corps is regularly available as a course orchestra for the head of the course, Prof. Hermann Pallhuber, and his students in the "Wind Orchestra Conducting" course. A cooperation with the music publisher Rundel led to the recording of the recordings “Euphoria” (2017) and “Sympatria” (2018).

As the only one of the currently existing German military orchestras, the Ulm Music Corps took part in the Basel Tattoo in 2018 and presented a modified form of its show there. In the same year the Heeresmusikkorps Ulm was also part of the cast of the second edition of the Bundeswehr Music Festival in the ISS Dome , Düsseldorf.

Lieutenant Colonel Matthias Prock left the Ulm Music Corps towards the north at the end of September 2019 in order to organize the reorganization of the Wilhelmshaven Marine Music Corps and to take over its management. At the beginning of October, Captain Dominik Koch - as a lateral entrant with a master's degree in wind orchestra conducting - took over the official duties as 2nd music officer and deputy director. Due to special needs in the course of the reorganization of a music corps, Lieutenant Colonel Lutz Bammler, previously a reserve officer, became the new head of the Ulm Army Music Corps in January 2020.

The first major project under the musical direction of Captain Dominik Koch was the performance of Karl Jenkins ' peace fair " The Armed Man ". The performance as part of the fundraising campaign “100,000 and Ulmer Helft” with the participation of the Kanti Choir Chur and the Basel Tattoo Choir was able to look forward to a fully occupied Congress Center Ulm.

During the COVID-19 pandemic , military musicians in Germany - including members of the Heeresmusikkorps Ulm - were trained to be "Community Health Workers" in order to support civilian health services if necessary within the scope of administrative assistance.
