The HeidelbergMan (from 1990 to 1992 Heidelberg Triathlon , since 1996 HeidelbergMan ) is a triathlon sporting event that takes place every summer in Heidelberg .
The first Heidelberg Triathlon was held on June 16, 1990, then annually until 1992. After a three-year break, the first HeidelbergMan took place in 1996 . This triathlon on the Neckar is held over the Olympic distance (short distance) (1.6 km swimming, 35 km cycling and 10 km running).
The HeidelbergMan is one of four (in even years) or five (in odd years) races that take place as part of the BASF Triathlon Cup Rhein-Neckar :
Mußbach Triathlon (in June)
Maxdorf Triathlon (in June in uneven years)
RömerMan Ladenburg (in July)
HeidelbergMan (in July or August)
Viernheimer V-Card Triathlon (in August)
In August 2007, Katja Schumacher from Heidelberg won her “home race” for the sixth time.
Due to the strong current in the Neckar, on August 1st, 2010, shortly before the start of the endurance triathlon, it had to be converted into a duathlon (5 km running, 32 km cycling and 10 km running).
In July 2019, more than 1000 participants took part in the 27th edition of the race and Karoline Brüstle and Maximilian Saßerath won the race.

Route
Traditionally, the HeidelbergMan takes place around Heidelberg Castle . The first stage, the approximately 1,600 meter long swimming distance , starts at Hackteufel and runs downstream in the Neckar. The 35 km long bike route starts on the banks of the Neckar and leads over the old bridge up to the castle. There follows a two-times 14 km long circuit over the Königsstuhl . The 800 meters in altitude associated with this section and the inclines of up to 14 percent make the Heidelberg Triathlon bike route one of the most demanding in the Olympic distance. The last stage is a ten-kilometer run on the Philosophenweg with further gradients of up to ten percent and a total of 160 meters in altitude.
