The Heidelberger Energiegenossenschaft eG (HEG) is a community of over 500 citizens that operates more than 20 citizen solar systems and is involved in several wind turbines.

Since 2013, the cooperative in the association of Bürgerwerke eG has been supplying 100% green electricity from citizens' hands to households and companies. Since 2019 it has also been supplying people with citizens' eco gas.

As an energy cooperative, it develops its own photovoltaic systems and feeds the green electricity into the power grid. In 2014 and 2018 the cooperative implemented "tenant electricity concepts", in which the tenants obtain their electricity directly from the cooperative, from their own solar system - for this HEG was awarded the German Solar Prize in 2014.
