Pilgrimage site Heiliges Bründl on Pöstlingberg

With Holy Bruendl one is a cult - and pilgrimage to the Grotto, and sources on Pöstlingberg in Upper Austria called.

background

The Pöstlingberg has been a destination for pilgrims since 1716 at the latest, when the lay brother Franz Obermayr began to work there . Time and again it is assumed that the actual veneration of the mountain as a place of pilgrimage goes back much further and has its origin in the Holy Bründl. It is assumed that there were places of worship on and on the Pöstlingberg in pre-Christian times.

Description and location

The place has two sources. The first is located directly at the nearby natural grotto and is formed by a natural shallow pool. Only their drain is taken. The second is about 100 m down the slope and is set in stone. At times the springs also served as the water supply for the Episcopal Gymnasium Petrinum . The place of worship can only be visited on foot. It is roughly at the same height as the fifth station on the Way of the Cross on the Pöstlingberg. It can be reached from Urfahr via a steep and arduous ascent.

Scooping tools are deposited around the springs. In the grotto, the Mother of God is venerated with votive pictures , candle offerings and floral decorations. A few meters away from the Mariengrotto there has been a small Buddha statue a little way off for several years .

Miracle effect

The two sources, especially the first, are said to have healing powers for eye disorders. The place is still visited by Catholics as a place of pilgrimage. The Diocese of Linz organizes official pilgrimage to the place. Even among esotericists , the place of worship is considered a place with a healing effect, which has been tried to prove with Kirlian recordings . The place also has an attraction for people with alternative beliefs. Chemical tests only showed that the water is very soft . How the legends and myths about water came about is not clear. In contrast to comparable pilgrimage sites, there is no uniform saga or legend regarding the healing properties.
