Heinrich Böll Prize
The Heinrich Böll Prize is a literary prize awarded by the city of Cologne in memory of the Nobel Prize winner for literature Heinrich Böll , an honorary citizen of the city since 1982. The award, which honors a literary life's work, was awarded annually from 1980, initially as the city's literary prize. The award has been called the Heinrich Böll Prize since 1985 . The prize was endowed with 35,000 marks . The Heinrich Böll Prize has been awarded every two years since 1993 . After the prize was endowed with 20,000 euros for some time, the prize amount is currently (as of 2019) 30,000 euros.

- the Lord Mayor of Cologne or his representative as chairman
- One representative each from the parliamentary groups entitled to vote in the Committee for Art and Culture / New Museum Buildings
- the head of culture for the city of Cologne
- the director of the city library
- one of the directors of the Institute for German Language and Literature at the University of Cologne
- two authors
- a literary critic
The mayor, the head of the cultural department and the director of the city library are natural members . The other members of the jury are appointed by the Committee for Art and Culture / New Museum Buildings for the duration of an election period.
The jury currently (2015) consists of the experts Christof Hamann , Guy Helminger , Ulrich Peltzer and Andreas Platthaus and makes its decisions under the chairmanship of the Mayor of Cologne.
