Heinrich Franz Köhler (born September 29, 1878 in Karlsruhe ; † February 6, 1949 there ) was a German politician ( center , later CDU ).

life and work

After training in the customs service, he was elected to the Karlsruhe city council in 1911, to which he belonged until 1920. From 1913 to 1927 he represented his party in the second chamber of the Baden assembly of estates and in the Baden state parliament . In 1921 he became an honorary member of the KDSt.V. Normannia zu Karlsruhe in CV and in 1926 in the Scientific Catholic Student Association Unitas Freiburg.

He was Minister of Finance in Baden from 1920 to 1927 and during this time also two short-term President and thus head of the Cabinets Köhler I and Köhler II . From 1927 to 1928 he served in the Marx IV cabinet as Reich Minister of Finance , and then sat in the Reichstag until 1932 . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , he was imprisoned.

After the Second World War he joined the CDU. From 1945 until his death he sat in the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden and from May to November 1946 held the office of Minister of Economics in this state.

Honors

Köhler was an honorary citizen of his hometown Karlsruhe. On October 11, 1948, in recognition of his special services to the advancement of Catholic issues, he was granted "honorary citizenship of the pilgrimage town of Walldürn . In 1923, the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University awarded him an honorary doctorate.
