Heinz Barta

Heinz Barta (* 1944 in Aurolzmünster ) is an Austrian legal scholar and emeritus professor at the University of Innsbruck .

Barta studied law at the University of Innsbruck and from 1967 initially worked at the Institute for Civil Law in Innsbruck under Professor Franz Gschnitzer . From 1975 to 1978 he completed a study visit to Munich at the Institute for International and Comparative Social Law. In 1983 he completed his habilitation in Berlin with a thesis on causality in social law. In the same year he was appointed to the professorship in Innsbruck .

Since 2004, Heinz Barta has been organizing regular conferences in cooperation with Robert Rollinger and Martin Lang under the title "Living (ig) e legal history", which particularly addresses research into cuneiform rights . In addition, he works on the origins of European law in ancient Greece, which culminates in a four-volume work entitled "Graeca non leguntur?" The Legal History Prize, which he established in 2011, is awarded to outstanding work on work in this very field.
