Heinz Greissing

Heinz Greissing (born March 29, 1933 in Vienna ; † May 6, 2020 in Bregenz ; also Enrique Greissing ) was an Austrian painter . He mainly painted landscapes (stripes) and portraits.

Life

Heinz Greissing spent his childhood in Hungary and his youth in Vorarlberg. From 1943 to 1953 he went to school in Mehrerau Abbey and at the Bregenz High School.

Greissing first enrolled in medicine in Innsbruck before studying with Oskar Kokoschka in Vienna at the Academy of Fine Arts with Robin Christian Andersen and Herbert Boeckl after attending the Summer Academy in Salzburg in 1956 . After graduating in 1964, he completed a semester in the sculpture class with Fritz Wotruba . Several public competitions and commissions followed since the 1970s for longer painting stays in Andalusia . Through intensive occupation with the landscape of southern Spain, Greissing developed his own style there - his so-called stripe pictures - which have become the painter's trademark. The painter, who prefers to work in front of the motif, combines several views (e.g. front and back views) or time levels (the same motif in changing lighting conditions) on one and the same canvas, and thus creates multidimensional or all-round views of a subject.

Heinz Greissing lived and worked on the Pfänder , above Bregenz ( Vorarlberg ), in Weinsteig , north of Vienna, and since 1974 he has spent a lot of time in Ronda , Spain , in Andalusia .

Greissing's contribution to modern painting lies in the development of the stripe pictures as a new form of representing reality.

Heinz Greissing died on May 6, 2020 at the age of 87 in Bregenz.
