Helen O'Connell (singer)
Helen O'Connell (born May 23, 1920 in Lima , Ohio , † September 9, 1993 in San Diego , California ) was an American singer and actress .
She began her career in the Austin Wylies Territory Band , which played in Cleveland ; she then joined the Jimmy Dorsey Band in 1939 after Dorsey had fired the singer Ella Mae Morse , and sang with the band in a duet with Bob Eberle in the 1940s the great hits Green Eyes , Amapola and Tangerine , all to Latin American melodies.
In 1943 she married for the first time (of four) and gave up singing until she was divorced. Then she began a solo career in 1951 (" Zing a Little Zong "). She died of cancer in 1993 and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California .
