Helga Hoffmann

Helga Bühler-Hoffmann , née Helga Hoffmann (born September 24, 1937 in Saarbrücken ), is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who was successful in the long jump and pentathlon in the 1950s and 1960s - starting in 1956 for the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

She won two bronze medals at the European Athletics Championships:

  • 1962 in the pentathlon (4676 points; individual performances: 11.2 s - 10.67 m - 1.60 m - 6.08 m - 24.7 s)
  • 1966 in the long jump (6.26 - 6.29 - 6.24 - 6.29 - 6.33 - 6.38 m )

She was voted Sportswoman of the Year twice in Germany - in 1965 and 1966 (with a tie with Karin Frisch ). In 1966 Helga Hoffmann was awarded the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Prize by the German Athletics Association .

In 1954 she took part in the European Championships in 1954 , starting for the still independent Saarland . For the Federal Republic, she also took part in the Olympic Games in 1956 , 1960 and 1964 and the European Championships in 1958 , but without medal success.

Hoffmann was German champion in the long jump in 1957, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1966. In the pentathlon she was able to win the title in 1961, 1963 and 1964. There were also several wins in the hall. She improved the German record in long jump five times and in pentathlon twice.

On February 27, 1966, she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her athletic achievements.

Helga Hoffmann started for the ATSV Saarbrücken . In her active days she was 1.68 m tall and weighed 62 kg. She lives in Lebach in the Saarland . She married in 1968 and was an administrative clerk at the sports department of the city of Saarbrücken.
