Stallion Maestoso Austria is a love film by Hermann Kugelstadt from 1956 . It was based on the novel of the same name by Arthur-Heinz Lehmann .
action
The riding instructor Georg Hochleitner travels to the Lipizzaner stud in Piber to see the stallion Maestoso Austria. Hochleitner falls in love with Countess Marika from Hungary , who shares his passion for horses. She is owned by the precious mare Deflorata.
Marika's fiancé Count Ferencz Szilady, the brother of her deceased husband, stands in the way of her love for Georg Hochleitner. Only after searching for Maestoso Austria do Marika and Georg finally find each other. Maestoso Austria and Deflorata also become a couple.
production
Stallion Maestoso Austria was filmed in the Lipizzaner stud in Piber, in Salzburg, in the Spanish Riding School and in the Hungarian Puszta . The integration of Lipizzaners in Austrian animal and homeland films was an almost unwritten law, not least with regard to tourism advertising.
The film premiered on August 10, 1956 in Vienna .
criticism
The lexicon of international films described the stallion Maestoso Austria as "banal entertainment with beautiful animal shots". The film service also criticized the "flat jokes".
Other critics accused the film of applying the homeland film scheme of the high and low couple here to the connections between riding instructor-countess and stallion-mare in an “unsurpassable lack of taste”. At the same time, it was argued that "the connection between a love story and an animal film [...] according to the taste of the time [had to] prove to be particularly successful".
