Henri René Joachim Dutrochet (born November 14, 1776 in Néon , Poitou , † February 4, 1847 in Paris ) was a French botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Dutr. "

From 1802 Dutrochet studied medicine at the University of Paris , where he received his doctorate in 1806. med. PhD. From 1808 he was a military doctor in Spain. After suffering from typhoid , he lived at Château-Renault . From 1810 he was a private scholar and lived temporarily in Paris.

Dutrochet researched the principle of osmosis and coined the terms endosmosis and exosmosis. He was also one of the first botanists to observe the multiplication of cells through division . As one of the first natural scientists, he emphasized the importance of cells for organisms. He also discovered the connection between the occurrence of chlorophyll in plants and photosynthesis . From 1831 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences in Paris.

On the Mascarene endemic plant species Trochetia ( Malvaceae ) is named after him.
