Henschel Musik is a Kassel-based German publisher and distributor of stage works.

history

Bruno Henschel (1900–1978) founded the publishing house in 1945 in East Berlin. In 1951, the Kunst- und Theaterverlag became a stage sales department for music-dramatic works. Many works by well-known composers from the GDR such as Paul Dessau , Georg Katzer , Gerhard Rosenfeld and Rainer Kunad have been published here . In addition, Henschel Musik brought out widely performed interpretations of well-known operas by Mozart and Verdi, among others by Walter Felsenstein , Joachim Herz and Klaus Schlegel.

After reunification, the stage sales company Henschel Musik was privatized and integrated into the Bärenreiter publishing group as Henschel Musik GmbH . In 2001 the publishing house moved from Berlin to Kassel . The name was changed to "Henschel Verlag für Musik GmbH". The publishing house will continue to be represented by Alkor under the name "Henschel Musik".

The former Henschel Verlag Kunst und Gesellschaft is now part of the Seemann Henschel publishing group in Leipzig.
