Herbert Eiteljörge (born November 27, 1934 - † October 2, 2014 ) was a German football goalkeeper . From 1954 to 1963 he played a total of 204 league games for the clubs Duisburger SpV (1954/55) and Preußen Münster (1955/56 to 1962/63) in what was then the first-class football Oberliga West . In the debut round of the Bundesliga , 1963/64, he was used for Münster in 26 league games. He ended his career with 40 more appearances in the second -rate regional soccer league West .

career

The higher class career of Eiteljörge began in 1953 with Duisburg SpV in the 2nd League West . With the West German old master he won the championship and thus promotion to the Oberliga West. Behind regular goalkeeper Josef Broden , the young talented goalkeeper had played three league games under coach Fred Harthaus . After Duisburg's rise to the Oberliga West, he played 20 games for the newcomer in 1954/55 on the side of players like Willi Koll and Ernst Wechselberger, and the DSV came in 4th. Then he moved to SC Preußen 06 Münster . In his first round in Prussia , 1955/56, he ranked third in the Prussian goalkeeper hierarchy behind Philip Gerberink (20 games) and Herbert Prott (8 games) with two appearances. In the last two rounds he was able to show his skills in Münster for the first time: on April 22nd in a 2-0 home win against Borussia Dortmund and on April 29th 1956 in a 0-1 home defeat against FC Schalke 04. After a year, the team was up Eiteljörge almost always in the gate of the Prussians from 1956 and was the undisputed number 1 and reliable support of the eagle bearers. He completed another 182 league games by 1963. In the round of 1959/60 he fought with Münster to stay in the league and he repeatedly proved to be a “tower in battle”. The SCP had to owe the league to its keeper. After the end of the round in 1961/62, Eiteljörge and his teammates went on a four-week trip to South America with friendly matches against the national teams of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

With 4th place in the last league round in 1963/64, he qualified with the Prussians for the Bundesliga for the 1963/64 season. With only 32 goals, the Prussian defense conceded the fewest goals in the league. The football press certified the defensive block from Münster with goalkeeper Eiteljörge, Kania and Tybussek "Bundesliga maturity": "Prussia Münster currently has the strongest back team in the west."

In the new challenge of the Bundesliga, Preußen Münster started on August 24, 1963 with a home game against the favorite Northern Series champions Hamburger SV, in whose ranks the German football idol of this period, center forward Uwe Seeler , stood out. In front of 30,000 spectators, HSV achieved a happy 1: 1. The Prussian defensive started in the usual formation with Eiteljörge in goal, the defender couple Heinz-Rüdiger Voss and Helmut Tybussek, as well as the runner row with Dagmar Drewes, Klaus Bockisch and Werner Lungwitz and had fulfilled their task against the HSV attack satisfactorily. Eiteljörge was also a regular goalkeeper in the 1963/64 season and was in the Prussian goal in 26 of the 30 Bundesliga games. Dieter Feller was used in the other four games . Neither of the two goalkeepers was able to prevent the immediate relegation of Münster, one point behind Hertha BSC and Karlsruher SC.

Herbert Eiteljörge then made 40 appearances in the Regionalliga West . The desired return to the Bundesliga was not successful. Until 1969 he was part of the Münster squad.

After his active playing career, the trained sports teacher trained, among other things, the Lüner SV in the second-class football Regionalliga West (1969/70 he achieved 6th place with the LSV) and was later the referee supervisor of SC Preußen 06.
