Herbert Günther (writer, 1947)

Herbert Günther (born June 14, 1947 in Göttingen ) is a German writer , translator and screenwriter with a focus on children's and youth literature .

Life

Herbert Günther spent his childhood and youth in Wöllmarshausen . From 1965 to 1968 he did an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Göttingen and also worked there for three years. He then worked for seven years as an editor of books for children and young people at Otto Maier Verlag in Ravensburg . Then he was again head of a children's bookshop in Göttingen for seven years and from 1986 to 1988 lecturer at Boje Verlag in Erlangen .

In 1974 he published his first independent book, Uncle Philipp Schweigt , at Georg Bitter Verlag in Recklinghausen . In the 1980s he wrote five scripts for the children's film series Neues aus Uhlenbusch on ZDF . Herbert Günther has been a freelance writer since 1988 . From then on, together with his wife Ulli Günther, he also translated numerous books for children and young people from English into German, including a. several titles each by David Almond , Avi , Alyssa Brugman , Anne Fine , PB Kerr , Magdalen Nabb and Angie Sage . He has received several awards for his own works as well as for his translations and was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2006. For older adolescents and adults, he has also presented a biography on Wilhelm Busch and a novel on Gottfried August Bürger .

Herbert Günther lives with his family in Friedland near Göttingen.
