Herbert Sukopp

Herbert Sukopp (born November 6, 1930 in Berlin ) is a German botanist and ecologist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Sukopp ".

Life

Sukopp studied botany , geology and sociology in Berlin. In 1958, Erich Werdermann did his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin . Ten years later he completed his habilitation in botany at the TU Berlin .

In 1969 he was appointed professor, from 1974 to 1996 full professor and head of the department of ecosystem research and vegetation science at the Institute for Ecology at the TU Berlin . He assumed responsibility as the state commissioner for nature conservation and landscape management and as chairman of the advisory board for nature conservation and landscape management in Berlin. He also became a member of the German Council for Landscape Management and the Central Commission for Biosafety , member and deputy chairman of the German Government's Council of Experts on Environmental Issues .

His main areas of research are urban ecology , vegetation , biological invasion and nature conservation .

In 1974 he published the first red list of endangered plant species in Germany .
