Hermann Adam von Kamp (born September 15, 1796 in Ruhrort ; † November 26, 1867 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German teacher , local historian and writer . The song he wrote in 1818 and published in 1829, Alles neu macht der Mai, is one of the lyrical cultural assets of the German language.

Life

Hermann Adam von Kamp was a teacher in Mülheim an der Ruhr from 1814 until his death. In 1814 he was appointed to the office of Broich School by the owner of Broich Castle , the Landgrave and Prince Georg Karl of Hesse-Darmstadt . As part of his school work, he described the city of Mülheim at the beginning of the 19th century, probably on behalf of his employer. He later expanded the description to include the Duisburg district , which stretched from Essen to Dinslaken around 1824 . With it he created lifelike documents of his time for this region.

However, it gained its general importance through its books for children and young people .

In 1864 Hermann Adam von Kamp was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle on the occasion of his golden anniversary as a teacher . The history association of the city of Mülheim posthumously placed a memorial stone for him on July 14, 1929 - 100 years after the May song was published - in Witthausbusch .

In April 2010, a long-forgotten story by Kamp made international headlines. Adelaide, the girl from the Alps , published in 1830 together with two other “Stories for Children”, was referred to by the Frankfurt Germanist Peter Büttner as the literary model for the Heidi novels by the Swiss author Johanna Spyri . Büttner's thesis was taken up in the television programs Kulturzeit and Kulturplatz , but was relativized by Spyri biographer Regine Schindler . The NZZ only saw superficial parallels and pointed out the many differences in the two stories. In a book published by Insel in 2011, Büttner defended his thesis.
