Hermann Auer

Hermann Auer (born December 1, 1902 in Munich ; † January 24, 1997 ) was a German physicist and museologist . He was Scientific Director of the Deutsches Museum and President of ICOM Germany .

Career

After studying physics, doing his doctorate in Frankfurt in 1925 and habilitation in Munich in 1936, he was a lecturer at the University of Munich from 1936. In 1943 he was appointed adjunct professor.

From 1948 he was head of the “Physics” department at the Deutsches Museum and from 1959 to 1971 its general director. He was also President of ICOM Germany from 1968 to 1992 .

In 1993 he founded the Hermann Auer Foundation with his wife Ursula .
