Hermann Otto II of Limburg-Styrum (born April 1, 1646 , † July 9, 1704 in Donauwörth ) was Imperial Field Marshal General and Count of Limburg-Styrum by descent .

Life

Hermann Otto was the son of Count Adolf Ernst von Limburg-Styrum and Maria Isabella von Vehlen and Meggen and grandson of Hermann Otto I. von Limburg-Styrum . He served first in a Bayreuth Dragoons - Regiment and received in 1678 while promotion to colonel a regiment of dragoons of the Imperial Army. On October 18, 1684 he became sergeant general and distinguished himself several times in the Turkish wars . In 1688 he became Lieutenant Field Marshal. In 1690 he went on a legation trip for Emperor Leopold to the Elector of Brandenburg , Prince Georg Friedrich von Waldeck , General of the Dutch Army, and the Marquis de Gastanaga , Governor of the Spanish Netherlands . Limburg-Styrum took After the battle between Peterwardein and Semblin under the Margrave of Baden he was appointed general of the cavalry . In 1692 he was involved in the Battle of Slankamen , where the Commander-in-Chief, Margrave Ludwig von Baden, praised him. In 1696 he was finally appointed Field Marshal . From 1701 to 1704 he fought on the Rhine and in southern Germany against the French ( First Battle of Höchstädt ). At the Battle of Schellenberg near Donauwörth (July 2, 1704) he led the second attack on enemy positions and was seriously injured; he died of the wound a week later.

Hermann Otto II of Limburg-Styrum was married to Countess Charlotte Amalie von Vehlen and Meggen zu Raesfeld (1662-1718) since 1678. The couple had the following children:
