Herrenschwand is a village in the southern Black Forest and, together with the front and rear villages of Präg, forms the Todtnau district of Präg in the Baden-Württemberg district of Lörrach , which has a joint local council .

location

Herrenschwand is located on a high plateau , surrounded by forest , surrounded by the highest mountains of the Black Forest at an altitude of about 1011  m and has a ski slope about 850 m long. The distance to Feldberg is about 25 kilometers and to Todtmoos six kilometers. The narrow pass road, which is the western ramp to the Weißenbachsattel , runs through Herrenschwand .

history

The place was called Herunswanda in 1374. The name part Schwand (= Swanda) is derived from Schwend , d. H. it is a clearing settlement. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Herrenschwand is mentioned as a fiefdom from the Margraves of Hachberg-Sausenberg to the Lords of Bärenfels . Later the place belonged to the monastery of St. Blasien .

Since 1809 Herrenschwand and Präg formed an independent municipality, which was incorporated into the city of Todtnau in 1974.

Others

In the state competition "Our village has a future - our village should become more beautiful" (2005/2006) Herrenschwand received "a gold award for outstanding achievements in the village, landscape and community". The village community advertises as "one of the last typical, picturesque Black Forest villages" to tourists.

There used to be a village school and shopping facilities, but these are no longer in operation. To this end, efforts have been made in recent years to set up spa and wellness offers. In Herrenschwand, for example, there is a Kneipp course in a stream.

Probably the most famous house owner in the past was Jörg Kachelmann , who owned a house in Herrenschwand and installed a small weather station there.

The Ski Friends Herrenschwand 1969 eV also organized a summer mountain run from 2005 to 2008 in which a height difference of 500 meters had to be overcome over a distance of 3500 meters.
