Location of Herressen-Sulzbach in Apolda
|
Herressen-Sulzbach is a district of the city of Apolda (since 1993) in the northeast of the Weimarer Land district . The community was created on July 1, 1950 with the merger of the previous communities Herressen and Sulzbach .
history
Herressen district
It was first mentioned in documents in the year 1209. There the place is mentioned as "Hircen", which means something like "from the deer". In the 13th century, noblemen "von Herressen" are mentioned, who are later called "Knights of Apolda" in documents. In the middle of the same century, the towns of Herressen and Sulzbach were named in documents from the Marienstift from Erfurt. In 1629 the local church was built. It was rebuilt from 1772 (changing the windows) to 1778 (changing the roof). In 1922 the communities of Herressen, Sulzbach and Oberndorf were to be merged. Since the places insisted on their independence, these plans were discarded in 1923.
The Herressener Promenade was laid out around 1880 and was expanded by the Apolda Beautification Association in the 1920s. Today it serves as a local recreation area and connects downtown Apolda with the Herressen-Sulzbach district.
District Sulzbach
The place Sulzbach was first mentioned in a document in 876. The construction of the church should fall in the end of the 12th century. In 1655 and 1777 renovations were carried out on the church. The bell of the church, which dates from the 13th century, bears an enigmatic inscription.
Herressen-Sulzbach
As early as 1922, efforts were made to merge the municipalities of Herressen, Sulzbach and Oberndorf into a single municipality, which failed in 1923 due to the reservations of the individual municipalities .
On July 1, 1950, Sulzbach was incorporated into Herressen. In a referendum after the fall of the Wall , the municipality was renamed Herressen-Sulzbach in the early 1990s.
