The Heartleaf Bergenie ( Bergenia cordifolia ) is a plant of the genus Bergenia ( Bergenia ) in the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae). The species forms hybrids with Bergenia crassifolia , Bergenia purpurascens and Bergenia ciliata .

The heart-leaved bergenia is an evergreen, perennial plant that reaches heights of 15 to 40 centimeters. It forms a rhizome . The leaf blade is more or less circular and rounded or heart-shaped at the base. The petal plate is more or less circular or broadly ovoid and suddenly narrows into the nail. The inflorescence has widely spreading, long side branches of the first order. The flowers are erect to angled upwards.
The flowering time is in March and April.
Occurrence
The heart-leaved bergenia occurs in Russia in the Alatau , the Sajan and possibly also in the southern Altai on alpine meadows and in bushes.

The heart-leaved bergenia is widely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens, borders, dry stone walls, groups of trees and pond banks. It has been in culture since 1779 at the latest. There are some varieties, for example 'Winterglut' whose leaves turn red in autumn.
