coat of arms

The municipality was awarded the coat of arms on May 16, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on July 4th of the same year.

Heyersum coat of arms
Blazon : "In green, an ascending, curved golden tip , with two turned away silver salt hooks ."
Justification of the coat of arms: In addition to the fertile fields, the salt springs south of the village, which were used until the last century, were the cause and basis of the Heyersum settlement, the existence of which can be traced back to the Neolithic. This fact is indicated by the two salt hooks in the green field, while the golden triangle inserted into the shield from below retains the memory of the “Gohe zum Güldenen Winkel” once located near Heyersum.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • At the eastern exit to the B1 there are two cross stones and a stone cross on the edge of Kreuzstrasse . Their age is estimated to be 450 to 750 years. According to a legend, they were used by a wise woman as a remedy against the plague. There are no longer any documented reasons for setting up the cross stones, also known as stones of atonement .
  • The St. Mauritius Church was built around 1350. The much newer church tower was only added in 1836.
  • The listed buildings of the salt works from 1604 are inhabited today. The salt pond is still behind them today.
  • In the middle of the 16th century there were two mills on the Mühlenberg, where the wooden cross is today. In addition, the court used to be there. In 1639 a mother was burned there for witchcraft and her children, 13 and 14 years old, were beheaded.
  • The wooden cross of the German East was erected on the Mühlenberg in 1961 and rededicated after being destroyed in 1990 and 2006.
