Hidalgo is a city in Hidalgo County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in southern Texas on US Highway 281 , on the border with Mexico on the Rio Grande , across from Reynosa , is about 100 km to the east from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of ​​11.5 km², of which 0.2 km² of water surface is.

history

The first settlers in this area were members of the colony of José de Escandón , founder and governor of the colony Nuevo Santander in New Spain in 1749 . The Hidalgo Early College High School is one of the best high schools in the United States. It has 3,395 students, 99.6% of whom are of Latin American descent. Hidalgo Early College High School is the winner of the State Championship in football and women's basketball.
