High Hopes (Frank Sinatra and Eddie Hodges Song)

High Hopes is a song by Jimmy Van Heusen (music) and Sammy Cahn , published in 1959 and best known for Frank Sinatra .

Cahn / Van Heusen wrote the song for the Frank Capra film One Size Too Big (original title: A Hole in the Head , 1959), in which it was introduced by Frank Sinatra and the child actor Eddie Hodges . The song then received an Oscar in the Best Song category in 1960 .

On May 8, 1959, Sinatra also recorded a studio version with Hodges and a children's choir. This version appeared on the single CP-4377 with the B-side All My Tomorrows by Sammy Cahn / Jimmy Van Heusen and on the Capitol album All the Way and was nominated for two Grammys in 1960 . High Hopes hit the Billboard charts on June 21, 1959; the song stayed in the charts for a total of 17 weeks and was ranked # 30.

During the 1960 presidential campaign , and with new lyrics by Sammy Cahn, Sinatra sang the song for John F. Kennedy in 1960 ; High Hopes became the campaign jingle for the Kennedy campaign.
