Physics highlights

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The highlights of physics are a series of events organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Physical Society (DPG) , which has been held annually in a different city in Germany since 2001.

background

The “Highlights of Physics” go back to the “Year of Physics 2000”, with which the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e. V. and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) started their " Science in Dialogue " initiative . With the “Highlights of Physics”, a sub-area of physics is to be brought closer to the general public. In addition, a large science event takes place once a year, the focus of which is an exhibition to touch and participate in. The supporting program includes a large opening show , lectures , a school competition and entertainment. The respective topic of the event is based on the corresponding “ Year of Science ”. The organizers are the BMBF, the DPG and local institutions.

Admission to the events is free. The events are financed in particular from funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and sponsors .

Issues relating to the “Highlights of Physics” are published annually by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Physical Society. V. (DPG).

For organizing the event, Eberhard Wassermann and Axel Carl received the 2007 medal for scientific journalism from the German Physical Society.
