Hindustan Times is one of the largest English-language daily newspapers in India. The newspaper has an approximate circulation of 1.6 million and a reach of approximately 4.3 million readers, making it the second largest English language newspaper in India after the Times of India .

The newspaper was founded in 1924 by Sunder Singh Lyallpuri , an activist of the Sikh - Akali Dal movement in what was then British India , established in the context of the Indian independence movement.
