The office tower, which was completed in the Uptown Munich complex in 2004 after three years of construction, was planned by Ingenhoven Overdiek und Partner ( Düsseldorf ); The client was the American company Hines , Munich.

The glass facade envelops the structure of the building like a stretched membrane . Circular ventilation elements act as windows that can be opened individually to allow natural ventilation. The 50,200 square meter high-rise is flanked by four seven-storey buildings called “campuses” (approx. 8,525 m² each), which are connected to one another by a transparent roof. A fifth building houses 139 apartments.

The floor slab of the high-rise building has a floor area of approx. 50 × 50 m and required 7,200 m³ of concrete with a mass of 18,400 t. The base plate was poured within 72 hours.

The construction met with heavy criticism in the city. The square shape , perceived as aesthetically undemanding , gave rise to the designation square bolt . Above all, however, it was criticized that the building was pushed into the historical panorama from the Nymphenburg palace rondel. In addition to the Highlight Towers , Uptown Munich was probably one of the main triggers for the efforts of the former Mayor Georg Kronawitter'sInitiative Our Munich ” , who succeeded in building other buildings of this height in Munich with a referendum on November 21, 2004 To prevent further.

The main user of the high-rise and the campus building is the German headquarters of the mobile operator Telefónica Germany (until 2014 O 2 , whose logo is still attached to the facade).

In August 2006, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation bought the skyscraper and one of the campus buildings for over 300 million euros.

From the beginning of 2012 to October 2017, 16 floors of the skyscraper were used by the automobile manufacturer BMW .

In 2017, the building changed hands for a three-digit million sum: Europa Capital and Bayern Projekt replaced the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.
