geography

location

The Hohe Lohr rises in the southwest of the Kellerwald and the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park . It is located exclusively in the municipality of Haina , the core of which is around 3 km to the west. The districts of Haina, Battenhausen in the north, Haddenberg in the east and Dodenhausen in the south-east and the Gemündener district of Herbelhausen in the south-west are spread around the wooded mountain.

Rhine-Weser watershed

The extremely elongated Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Hohe Lohr : On the one hand, the water of the Appenbach, which rises as a south-westerly tributary of the Urff on the north flank of the mountain, and that of the north , which flows from the east flank as a northwest tributary of the Gilsa , ultimately flows through the Schwalm , Eder and Fulda in the Weser . On the other hand, that of the Kunzebach, which rises as the southeastern tributary of the Wohra on the northwest flank, and that of the Giebelingsbach, which flows out of the south flank as the northeastern source brook of the Ebersgraben , ultimately runs through the Wohra, Ohm and Lahn into the Rhine .

Natural allocation

The High Lohr heard in the natural environment feature unit group West Hesse Highlands (no. 34) in the main unit Keller forest (344), although the latter also to the main unit group Süderbergland of (33) Rheinische Schiefergebirges is counted, the natural space means Kellerwald (344.1).

hike

Along the northern slope of the Hohen Lohr, sections of the Kellerwaldsteig (156 km long hiking trail in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park) and student path (252 km long hiking trail, which leads from Göttingen via Kassel to Gießen ) lead in an east-west direction . The Tischbein hiking trail runs congruently from Haina to Dodenhausen as part of the student path along the mountain. Branch paths and paths lead to the summit.

Battenhausen ski area

Until 2017, the Battenhausen ski area was located on the slopes of the Hohen Lohr near the town of the same name. There were ski slopes , trails and tobogganing opportunities there.

Telecommunication tower Hohes Lohr

The 142 m high telecommunications tower Hohes Lohr of the German radio tower stands on the mountain top . While it has not broadcast any analog television programs since the introduction of DVB-T in Northern Hesse, the private radio station Hit Radio FFH broadcasts from here in the VHF range.
