Holger Meitinger (born March 28, 1957 in Augsburg ) is a former German ice hockey player who played for many years on the position of striker for the Mannheim ERC and the Cologne EC in the ice hockey Bundesliga . At the beginning of the 1980s he was also a regular player for the German national ice hockey team .

Career

Meitinger played for the first time in the 1st Bundesliga for Augsburg EV as a youth in the 1976/77 season . He then played briefly for the Krefelder EV and the Sportbund Rosenheim . In the 1979/80 season, the winger moved to Mannheim ERC for two years , with whom he became German champions in his first year . In 1981 he switched to the Cologne EC , for which he was active for nine years. During this period he became German champion four times with the KEC ( 1984 , 1986 , 1987 , 1988 ). Meitinger was elected to the league's all-star team in 1980/81 and 1981/82 and was even named Player of the Year in 1981. He played a total of 557 games in the highest German league and scored 401 goals and 766 points scorer .

For the German national team , Meitinger played a total of 78 competitive games in which he scored 33 goals. He took part in the 1979 , 1981 , 1982 and 1983 World Championships and the 1980 Olympic Games for his country . At the 1981 World Cup, he was top scorer with 20 points. He holds the scoring record for a German player at world championships to this day (2014).

Today Meitinger lives in Bonn , but continues to work in Cologne. He takes part in tournaments with the traditional team of the Kölner Haie or plays against other traditional teams. On May 18, 2007 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame Germany.
