The village of Hommelvik is the administrative center of Malvik Municipality in Trøndelag Province in Norway .
geography
Hommelvik is located approximately 24 km east of Trondheim city center and 6 km southwest of Trondheim Airport . The place is on the south bank of the Hommelvika , a bay on the southern edge of the Stjørdalsfjord , an eastern branch of the Åsenfjord , which in turn is a section of the Trondheimfjord . The Homla river crosses the town from south to north and flows into the Hommelvika.

The population was 4643 in 2013. The town, which was once characterized by industry and handicrafts, is now an administrative and service center.

The European route 6 (section Trondheim - Narvik ) leads immediately south around the place.
The Trondheim – Storlien railway line operated by Norges Statsbaner (NSB) has a stop in Hommelvik on the line between Trondheim and the airport. A serious accident occurred here during the German occupation of Norway in World War II , in which 22 people died and around 45 were injured.
