Homotetramer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A homotetrameric complex, β-glucuronidase (a glycosidase ). Each subunit has the same amino acid sequence .

A homotetramer is a protein complex that consists of four identical protein subunits , which are connected but not covalent . A heterotetramer , on the other hand, is a protein complex with four subunits in which at least one differs from the other subunits. Both are tetramers .

Examples of homotetramers would be enzymes such as β-glucuronidase ( see picture ); Export factors such as SecB in Escherichia coli and magnesium ion transporters such as CorA.
