Hope Lewellen (born April 20, 1967 in Aarvey , Illinois ) is a former American wheelchair tennis and sitting volleyball player .

Career

Wheelchair tennis

Hope Lewellen started wheelchair tennis at the age of 26 and started in the paraplegic class .

She took part in two Paralympic Games in wheelchair tennis . In 1996 , she was eliminated in Atlanta in singles in the second round, while she reached the final in doubles. On the side of Nancy Olson she lost the final game against Monique Kalkman and Chantal Vandierendonck with 1: 6 and 0: 6 and won the silver medal. At the 2000 Games in Sydney she was eliminated this time in doubles in the first round, but reached the quarterfinals in singles. She lost this against Kimberly Blake in straight sets.

In the world rankings, she achieved her best placings with fourth place in singles on March 26, 1996 and also with second place in doubles on July 29, 1997. She played her last tournament in 2010.

Sitting volleyball

In sitting volleyball, she also took part in two Paralympic Games. With the US team won in 2004 in Athens the silver medal and 2008 in Beijing bronze. In 2008 she won the bronze medal with the team at the World Championships.
