Horst Abt (born May 2, 1927 in Frankfurt am Main ; † October 19, 2015 there ) was a German entrepreneur .

Career

Horst Abt came from a long-established Frankfurt family business that was founded in 1890. As a pupil he attended the Helmholtz School , at that time an upper secondary school for boys with a focus on science. He then completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter .

During the Second World War he was a soldier and was taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1948. With his brother Klaus he rebuilt the destroyed family business. In 1960 he passed the master craftsman's examination as a carpenter at the Chamber of Crafts in Frankfurt. His son Peter has been running the company since he retired.

Functions

  • 1971 to 1979 - President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Crafts
  • 1977-1993 - honorary member of the Municipal Council of the City of Frankfurt am Main
  • 1979 to 1994 - President of the Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts, President of the Working Group of the Hessian Chambers of Crafts, President of the Hessian Crafts Day (HHT)
  • since 1994 - Honorary President of the Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts

Honors

Abt had been the holder of the Hessian Order of Merit since 1991 , of the Great Federal Cross of Merit with Star of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany since 1994 and the plaque of honor of the city of Frankfurt am Main since 1995 . In addition, he was awarded the Gold Crafts Ring and the Ring of Honor of the Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts.
