Horst Franz Kern

Horst Franz Kern (born December 1, 1938 in Saarbrücken ) is a German doctor and biologist.

He received his doctorate in 1964 and completed his habilitation in 1968 at the University of Heidelberg , where he became an adjunct professor in 1973. In 1976 he went to the Philipps University of Marburg as a full professor , where he was director of the Institute for Cytobiology and Cytopathology. From 2000 to 2003 he was President of the University of Marburg.

In 1970, Kern received the Ferdinand Bertram Prize from the German Society for Diabetes Research. His research areas are anatomy , histology and cell biology . In 2012 he was awarded the “Vay Liang and Frisca Go Award for Lifetime Achievement” from the American Pancreatic Association in Miami / Florida for his life's work .
