Horst Hornung (trade unionist)

Horst Hornung (born July 8, 1926 in Dortmund ; † September 17, 1982 ) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ) and politician . He was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Hornung, the son of a working-class family, attended elementary school . Between 1940 and 1943 he completed an apprenticeship as a sheet metal fitter and then worked in the profession.

From 1945 to 1947 he was retrained as a roofer and worked as a roofer until 1949. From 1949 to 1959 he worked as a body plumber at the Eisenach automobile plant . In 1955 he joined the FDGB and in 1960 the SED . From 1959 to 1976 he was shift supervisor and foreman at VEB Röhrenwerk or VEB Mikroelektronik "Wilhelm Pieck" Mühlhausen . Hornung was from 1961 to 1967 member of the company union management (BGL) and from 1967 to 1971 chairman of a department union management. From 1971 he was again a member of the BGL, from 1976 first as deputy, then as chairman of the BGL in the VEB Microelectronics "Wilhelm Pieck" Mühlhausen.

Hornung had been a member of the Mühlhausen district board of IG Metall in the FDGB since 1970 . 1971/72 he attended the district school for Marxism-Leninism. Since 1976 he has been a member of the secretariat of the Mühlhausen district executive of IG Metall. Hornung qualified as a master in mechanical engineering.

In 1971 he was elected to the People's Chamber for the Erfurt district , constituency 36 . In 1976 and 1981 he was re-elected and remained a member of the People's Chamber until his death in 1982. As a member of the FDGB parliamentary group, he was there from 1974 to 1976 a member of the Committee on Labor and Social Policy and from 1976 a member of the Committee on Popular Education.

Hornung died at the age of 56.
