Horst Machts

Horst Machts (born February 25, 1932 in Gera ) is a former German youth functionary ( FDJ ) and secret service officer of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR . He was head of Department III of the Central Enlightenment Administration .

Life

After attending elementary school from 1946 to 1949, the son of a former completed an apprenticeship as a sheet metal maker and then worked in the profession. During his apprenticeship he became a member of the FDJ and in 1950 FDJ works secretary in Gera. In the same year he became a full-time youth functionary as department head of the FDJ district leadership in Gera. He joined the SED in 1951 and became first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Eisenberg in 1952. After attending the Komsomol University in Moscow in 1956/57, he held the position of First Secretary of the FDJ district leadership Gera-Land from 1957 to 1959. As the successor to Fred Fischer , he was first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Gera from October 1960 to 1964 as well as a member of the SED district leadership and candidate of his office. Power was in May 1959 on the VI. Parliament of the FDJ initially as a candidate and elected in December 1961 at the 9th session of the Central Council of the FDJ as a member of the Central Council of the FDJ. As head of an FDJ delegation, he traveled to several countries in Southeast Asia from December 1961 to February 1962 and established new contacts with 83 youth organizations. In 1964 he was special representative at the Central Council of the FDJ.

In 1965 he was hired by the MfS. He started in the HVA department III (legally covered residences) and became deputy head there in 1973. In 1979 he was promoted to colonel and in 1980 rose to 1st deputy chief. From 1983 until his release in 1990 he was finally head of the department (successor to Werner Prosetzky ).

After the reunification in the GDR he became a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR).
